Ammon News - Chairman of the Social Security Investment Fund (SSIF) Omar Malhas denied any government interference in the fund's operations or investment decisions.
Speaking to Ammon News in response to remarks by former Social Security Corporation Director General Mohammad Al-Tarawneh, Malhas said that since assuming his position at the fund a year and a half ago — and throughout his 10 years of work there — he had never witnessed any government interference in Social Security investments, adding that he is ready to swear to it.
Malhas explained that the working mechanism involves the government presenting projects to the Social Security Corporation for evaluation, and if they align with the fund’s investment strategy, the fund participates.
He clarified that the government did not ask the Social Security Fund to invest in the Amrah City project; rather, the Investment Fund itself pursued the investment after considering it a significant long-term investment opportunity that Jordan needs.
Malhas stressed that Al-Tarawneh had no role in the Amrah City investment, noting that he had left his position at the Social Security Corporation more than four months before the investment study for the city began.
Earlier, during a seminar organized by the Jordanian Association for Science and Culture, Al-Tarawneh said he had completely rejected investing JD172 million of Social Security funds in Amrah City, arguing that a feasibility study was necessary to assess the project’s chances of success and expected returns, adding that governments deal with the Social Security Corporation as if it were a government institution.
