Ammon News - The U.S. Embassy in Amman has advised American citizens to avoid travel to military bases in Jordan, citing heightened security risks as tensions continue to escalate across the Middle East.

In a security alert issued on Saturday, the embassy said the regional security environment remains complex and unpredictable, warning that further escalation could occur without notice. The advisory comes amid ongoing military exchanges involving Iran and U.S. interests in the region, including recent attacks targeting American forces and facilities.

U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted. Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions, the Embassy added.

American citizens in Jordan and elsewhere in the Middle East were urged to remain vigilant, monitor local media, and prepare for possible travel disruptions, including flight cancellations and temporary airspace closures. The embassy said some airlines have delayed the resumption of normal operations, while others have suspended certain routes.

The advisory also called on U.S. citizens to avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, stay away from areas with a heavy security presence, follow instructions issued by local authorities, and remain alert at locations publicly associated with the United States.

The embassy encouraged Americans to enroll in the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates and facilitate communication with U.S. officials during emergencies. It also urged travelers to check directly with airlines for the latest information regarding flight schedules and potential disruptions.
