Jordanian Air Force helicopter unit rescues plane crash survivors in DR Congo

Ammon News - A Royal Jordanian Air Force Black Hawk helicopter on Thursday carried out a search, rescue, and medical evacuation mission after a small passenger plane crashed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The helicopter, assigned to the Jordanian unit Congo/2 serving with the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), was dispatched at the request of UN leadership after local Congolese forces were unable to reach the remote crash site.

Taking off from Beni-Mavivi Airport, the search and rescue team flew nearly 200 kilometers to reach the downed aircraft. Rescuers airlifted the injured pilot and mechanic, along with the co-pilot's body, back to Beni-Mavivi Airport for medical treatment and processing.

MONUSCO leadership praised the Jordanian unit's high level of professionalism, rapid response, and operational efficiency during the operation.

The deployment forms part of the Jordan Armed Forces - Arab Army's broader commitment to international peacekeeping and humanitarian support operations.
