Ammon News - The Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced that it has officially responded to a letter sent by the Speaker of the House of Representatives on July 14, 2026, informing the Commission of a vacant parliamentary seat in the Aqaba local electoral district previously held by Hassan Salah Al-Riyati.
The vacancy arose following a final court ruling sentencing Al-Riyati to two years in prison. Accordingly, and pursuant to Article 75 of the Jordanian Constitution, his parliamentary membership is terminated and the seat becomes vacant, as also affirmed by Article 10 of the Election Law.
In its response, the IEC stated that Bakr Yahya Mohammad Al-Kasasbeh, a candidate from the Islamic Action Front Party (currently the Nation Party) on the party's electoral list in Aqaba, is next in line based on the number of votes received on the same list. This is in accordance with Article 57(A) of the 2022 House of Representatives Election Law and its amendments.
