Gov't bans use of AI in national emblems, symbols

11-07-2026 05:13 PM

Ammon News - The government on Saturday issued a circular on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) programs, tools, and applications in handling national emblems, flags, banners, sovereign symbols, images, and official seals.

The directive was made due to the potential for AI technologies to compromise the integrity and authenticity of these emblems and symbols, or alter their nature or approved form, it said.

It applies to all ministries, official departments, public institutions and bodies, public universities, municipalities, the Greater Amman Municipality, joint services councils, and government-owned companies.

AI programs, tools, or applications may not be used to create, generate, modify, process, enhance, or alter national emblems, flags, banners, sovereign symbols, images, and official seals, or to introduce any visual elements or effects to them, if such action would compromise their authenticity or alter their approved form or content, it stipulates.

No national emblems, flags, banners, sovereign symbols, images, or official seals created, modified, or manipulated using artificial intelligence technologies should be published, circulated, adopted, or used if such use would compromise their integrity or official status, it ordered.

The circular called for the use of original or approved versions of national emblems, flags, banners, sovereign symbols, images, and official seals, given the rapid expansion in the use of AI applications in design and content production, and the potential for unintended changes to the approved forms, colors, and details of national symbols.

However, it does not preclude the use of AI technologies in media planning, idea development, content creation, analysis and review, and improving presentation methods, provided this does not compromise the authenticity, form, content, or official specifications of national and sovereign symbols.

The order was issued in light of the enduring national and sovereign significance of these symbols, and the provisions governing their use under existing legislation, with the aim of protecting them from any alteration or manipulation that might compromise their authenticity, integrity, or official status, and to ensure their correct and uniform use in media, official, digital, and advertising materials.

The government asked relevant entities to take the necessary measures to ensure their employees, users, and staff comply with the provisions of the regulation.
