Ammon News - Minister of Interior, Mazen Al-Faraya, arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Wednesday in the first official visit by an Arab interior minister to Syria since the fall of the former regime.
Al-Faraya and his accompanying delegation were received at Tishreen Palace by Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab and a number of senior officials.
Upon his arrival, Al-Faraya stressed the importance of the visit in strengthening bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries across various sectors, particularly in security cooperation.
He also condemned the terrorist bombings that recently struck Damascus, reaffirming Jordan’s full solidarity with Syria in confronting violence and the targeting of civilians. He noted that his visit, despite the current security circumstances, reflects both countries’ commitment to enhancing joint cooperation.
Al-Faraya expressed Jordan’s confidence in Syria’s ability to move forward with reconstruction efforts and to further strengthen security and stability.
In addition, Al-Faraya held extensive talks with Khattab and Syrian officials on prospects for bilateral cooperation, including joint training programs, the development of border centers, and efforts to combat drug smuggling.
