Venezuelan Ambassador praises Jordan's humanitarian response following earthquake

05-07-2026 08:35 AM

Ammon News - Venezuelan Ambassador to Jordan Omar Vielma Osuna hailed Jordan's humanitarian response following the recent twin earthquakes in Venezuela, describing the Kingdom's swift assistance as a lasting symbol of solidarity that will remain deeply rooted in the memory of the Venezuelan people.

Speaking on the sidelines of the reception for Jordanian citizens evacuated from Venezuela on Saturday, the ambassador said Jordan's rapid response reflected the strength of humanitarian ties between the two countries and demonstrated the values of solidarity in times of crisis. He also expressed appreciation for the support extended by the State of Qatar during the emergency.

The reception followed the arrival in Amman of 21 Jordanian citizens evacuated from Venezuela aboard a Qatari Air Force C-17 cargo aircraft that had transported humanitarian, medical and food aid from Jordan to the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, last Thursday. The aircraft also carried the accompanying Jordanian military delegation.

The evacuation operation was carried out in implementation of Royal directives to facilitate the safe return of Jordanian nationals after the twin earthquakes struck Venezuela.

The ambassador noted that Jordan was among the first countries to respond to the disaster by deploying a search and rescue team of around 100 specialists, who launched rescue operations immediately upon arrival and took part in what he described as heroic field missions.

He highlighted the rescue of a three-year-old child from beneath the rubble six days after the earthquake, saying the operation represented more than a successful rescue mission, becoming a powerful symbol of hope for the Venezuelan people amid the country's difficult circumstances.

Osuna said the Venezuelan people had witnessed firsthand the spirit of brotherhood demonstrated by Jordan through its prompt response and unwavering support, adding that such humanitarian actions remain firmly embedded in the collective memory of nations and that true friends are those who stand together in times of adversity.

He also commended Qatar's contribution to the humanitarian response, saying the solidarity shown by both Jordan and Qatar had been highly appreciated by the Venezuelan leadership and people.

On behalf of the Venezuelan government and people, the ambassador extended his sincere gratitude to Jordan for its humanitarian assistance and the efforts of its search and rescue teams, stressing that the Kingdom's support would continue to be remembered with appreciation and respect.
