PM asks Labor Minister to resign over tenders submitted by his son

02-07-2026 08:08 PM

Ammon News - A government source said that Prime Minister Jafar Hassan asked Minister of Labor Khaled Al-Bakkar on Sunday, June 28, to submit his resignation due to a conflict of interest after learning that the minister's son had submitted bids for government tenders. One of those bids h
.ad been awarded, while the others had not.

The Prime Minister reportedly ordered the suspension of these tenders in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations, and legal procedures. The source said the action was taken because the situation conflicted with the code of conduct signed by ministers upon assuming office.

Al-Bakkar's absence had sparked speculation and confusion amid rumors of disagreements between him and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, leading to reports that he had been placed on open-ended leave.

The source had previously told "Ammon News" on Thursday that the confusion arose because Minister of Transport and acting Minister of Labor Nidal Al-Qatamin had been working from the Ministry of Labor and signing its correspondence, contrary to the usual practice whereby ministry documents are sent to the minister rather than the minister working directly from the ministry.

Al-Qatamin later relinquished the acting position and traveled abroad. As a result, Minister of Local Administration Walid Al-Masri assumed the role of acting Minister of Labor following a recommendation by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, with the two ministers alternating responsibility for the ministry, the source added.
