Crown Prince turns 32 on Sunday

Ammon News - Sunday marks the 32nd birthday of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.

The eldest son of Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the Crown Prince was born in Amman on 28 June 1994 and is the 42nd generation direct descendant of Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him.

A Royal Decree was issued on 2 July 2009, naming His Royal Highness as Crown Prince. Since then, His Royal Highness has also assumed the role of Regent on several occasions.

In 2017, the Crown Prince graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, from which his father, King Abdullah II, and his grandfather, the late King Hussein, had also graduated.

In 2016, His Royal Highness graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he majored in international history. He had graduated in 2012 from King’s Academy school in Madaba.

The Crown Prince married Her Royal Highness Princess Rajwa Al Hussein on 1 June 2023, with whom he has one daughter, Her Royal Highness Princess Iman bint Al Hussein, born on 3 August 2024. His Royal Highness holds the rank of major in the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, and serves as assistant commander of the Special Battalion 101, a unit of the King Abdullah II Special Forces Group.

The Crown Prince has taken part, alongside his brothers-in-arms, in numerous military and specialised field training courses, including parachuting, special operations, naval forces, and helicopter operations; he also pays great attention to engaging with his active and retired brothers-in-arms.

His Royal Highness continues to oversee the implementation of His Majesty’s directives across all institutions through visits and inspection tours.

The Crown Prince meets with young people from various governorates across the Kingdom to listen to their ideas and suggestions and to encourage their participation and positive contribution to building Jordan’s future. His Royal Highness also holds meetings with community leaders and key figures from tribes and governorates.

The Crown Prince pays particular attention to youths, as demonstrated by the establishment of the Crown Prince Foundation in 2015, with the aim of empowering young people across all governorates by equipping them with the opportunities and skills in highly competitive fields; the number of young men and women benefiting from CPF’s initiatives and programmes exceeds 2 million annually.

Al Hussein Technical University, which is part of the Crown Prince Foundation, was established in 2016 to provide applied technical education focusing on specialisations in demand in the labour market.

The Crown Prince takes a keen interest in the tourism, technology, and vocational and technical education sectors, and follows up on the progress of the projects and plans of the National Council for Future Technology, which is working on several initiatives to strengthen Jordan’s position in the digital economy and improve services provided to citizens.

Deputising for the King, His Royal Highness has represented Jordan at numerous international forums, including the World Economic Forum in Davos and the Informal Meeting of European Union and Regional Partners in Nicosia, Cyprus.

The Crown Prince has undertaken a number of official working visits, including to Arab and foreign countries, during which he held several meetings with their leaders and senior officials to discuss strengthening Jordan’s partnership with these countries across all fields.

His Royal Highness has received the Order of Al Istiqlal (Independence) of the First Degree, the King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein Order for Distinction of the First Degree, the Order of the State Centennial, the Commander Grand Cross of the Order of the Polar Star from Sweden, the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav of the First Degree from Norway, the King Hamad Order of the Renaissance 1st class (Wisam al Nahda) from Bahrain, and the Great Arab Revolt emblem.

The Crown Prince’s interests include football, diving, hiking, and shooting.
