86% of Jordan's population enumeration phase completed

Ammon News - Director General of Department of Statistics, (DoS) Dr. Haider Freihat, presented updates on the implementation of the 2026 General Population and Housing Census and the progress made so far across the Kingdom.

During a meeting held on Sunday with Governor of Amman, Yasser Adwan, and members of the Governorate's Executive Council, Freihat said the current phase of the census (enumeration phase) is "advancing, based on the approved schedule at a rapid pace." Freihat noted the overall completion rate for the enumeration phase across the Kingdom has reached 86% of the population.

He added that the completion rate for enumerating buildings has stood at 87%, while the completion rate for itemizing census blocks has reached 85.3% out of a total of 24,058 units across the Kingdom, reflecting the "high level of preparedness and commitment in carrying out the fieldwork." In a related context, Freihat revealed a "significant" increase in reliance on census-based digital solutions, noting 21% of citizens expressed their desire to use the "self-enumeration" option.

He stated this step enhances census efficiency and provides citizens with flexible options, adding that the actual enumeration will take place on October 1.

The meeting discussed several executive aspects on the progress of fieldwork and mechanisms for supporting the working teams, urging integrated efforts among various official and local entities to ensure success of this national project.

In turn, Adwan the census is a "a key and strategic" national project that provides accurate data to support decision-making and the formulation of development policies.

He commended the efforts exerted by the DoS and the field teams working nationwide.

Held within coordination meetings conducted by the department with governorates and partner entities, the discussions aimed at monitoring progress and enhancing preparations for the next phase, which would ultimately lead to implementing the census, based on the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
