Crown Prince says we must not fear change

29-04-2026 11:54 AM

Ammon News -

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II delivered remarks on Wednesday while patronizing the graduation ceremony of the first 2026 cohort of national service conscripts.

In his speech, the Crown Prince said military service is not merely a rank, but a spirit of belonging to something greater than oneself and a legacy of pride passed on through actions rather than words.

“I stand here today with the pride of a soldier and the son of a soldier, a young man raised in a household that loves the military and values the honor of service,” he said, noting that these deeply rooted values form part of the national identity cherished by Jordanians.

The Crown Prince recalled the words of the late King Hussein bin Talal, who said, “National service is a declaration of the highest form of loyalty to the homeland,” stressing that these meanings remain present in Jordanians’ conscience and underpin the relationship between citizen and country.

Addressing the graduates, he said they would come to realize over time that the training period was not a passing stage, but a profound experience that shapes character, refines the self, reorganizes priorities, and strengthens responsibility and discipline.

He noted that the region is experiencing a period of escalation that requires awareness, responsibility, readiness, and a patriotic mindset that puts Jordan first, emphasizing the need for unity amid regional challenges.

The Crown Prince stressed that mobilizing the energies of young people is more important today than ever, as it helps build character, strengthen national resolve, and empower youth to confront challenges and serve the nation effectively.

He said Jordanian values remain steadfast, but adhering to the methods of the past is no longer an option, underscoring the need to keep pace with developments and confront challenges with renewed spirit and modern tools.

“We must not fear change; the real danger lies in stagnation, and fear has never been among the traits of Jordanians,” he said, adding that progress requires courage in modernization and openness to the future.

The Crown Prince said Jordan’s volatile geographic position has helped shape the national character, enabling Jordanians to achieve much with limited resources and build a state that has gone beyond mere resilience.

He added that Jordan’s path toward a stronger future is based on self-reliance, investment in opportunities created by technology, and renewed commitment to education and skills-building to enhance the competitiveness of Jordanian youth.

“There is no glory except for those who take challenge as their path, patience as their weapon, and determination as fuel that never fades,” he said.

The Crown Prince stressed that Jordan was not built through comfort nor preserved through hesitation, but carried on the shoulders of strong men, alongside women who believed in their role in building and giving.

Addressing youth, he said: “You are the strength and foundation of this homeland. Through you it stands firm, and through you it moves forward.”

He noted that the national service experience leaves a lasting impact on young people, equipping them with skills and values that extend into all aspects of life and strengthen their role in serving the nation.

He concluded his speech by saying: “May Jordan remain above all considerations, steadfast and proud, with its army and people, resilient in the face of all hardships.”
