Polish man passes driver’s license theory test on 139th attempt

28-03-2026 03:00 PM

Ammon News - A Polish man has passed the theory test for his driver’s license after 139 attempts spread over nine years and costing hundreds of euros.

The candidate succeeded last week at the Małopolska Road Traffic Centre in the southern city of Tarnów, according to local outlet Tarnów Nasze Miasto.

In Poland, aspiring drivers must first pass a computer-based theory test before taking a practical road exam.

The theory test costs 56 zloty (€13), while the practical driving test costs 229 zloty (€53).

The man had been attempting the test since 2017 and had spent around €1,800 on the first part of the exam alone.

“This person did not give up taking the exam. It shows that the driving license is very important for him,” Paweł Gurgul, director of the Tarnów testing center, told local media.

“Now he is waiting for the practical exam,” he said.

“In a conversation with this person, we realized that he had been using a demo version of the tests that prepare you for the theoretical exam,” Gurgul said.

“After he started using the full version of the program, with all the questions, he was getting closer and closer to a positive result, missing fewer and fewer points, until he finally passed.”
