Heavy rainfall floods tens of thousands of displaced tents in Gaza

24-02-2026 02:07 PM

Ammon News - Heavy rainfall that fell Monday and Tuesday morning flooded thousands of tents belonging to displaced families in the Gaza Strip, soaking their clothes and blankets and exacerbating their ongoing suffering since the start of the Israeli offensive on the Strip on October 7, 2013.

The current storm continues to affect the territory, with rainwater flooding hundreds of tents in various areas, amid a complete absence of reconstruction efforts or the provision of basic necessities for the displaced.

Several deaths have been recorded due to the collapse of homes caused by the winter storms, , as well as fatalities among children and the elderly from cold exposure and lack of heating, reflecting the dire humanitarian conditions faced by the displaced people living in tents, homes, and dilapidated buildings.

Medical sources have warned of the catastrophic situation facing the displaced in the Strip, where approximately 127,000 out of 135,000 tents are now uninhabitable.

Displaced people are facing the bitter cold without sufficient blankets or flooring to protect them from the damp and cold, especially families living in dilapidated tents or in remote and isolated areas. The shortage of blankets and heating exceeds 70% across the Gaza Strip, and is even more critical in remote areas.

The aggression has destroyed 92% of residential buildings in the Gaza Strip, either completely or partially, forcing the majority of residents to flee to tents that provide no protection from summer heat or winter cold, or to live in their dilapidated homes, despite the risk of collapse due to floods and rain.
