Health ministry confirms RSV behind respiratory cases at Tafilah Care Center

08-02-2026 10:54 AM

Ministry of Health

Ammon News - The Ministry of Health confirmed on Sunday that laboratory test results for several beneficiaries at Al-Ais Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tafilah Governorate showed that the cause of the reported respiratory infections was the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

Five cases are still receiving medical care at Tafilah Governmental Hospital and are all in stable condition, while six others were discharged on Saturday evening after their health improved, the ministry said, adding that no new cases have been recorded.

The ministry explained that a treatment protocol has been put in place for patients infected with RSV and any secondary bacterial infections, if present. It noted that RSV is a common respiratory virus transmitted through respiratory droplets or direct contact, and usually causes upper respiratory tract symptoms that are mild to moderate, especially when handled early and in accordance with approved medical guidelines.

Health Minister Dr. Ibrahim Bdour directed the deployment of another team specializing in infection control and health awareness to Tafilah to strengthen infection-prevention measures and raise awareness about RSV transmission among service providers. Rapid response teams and the crisis cell continue to monitor the health situation at the shelter center.

The ministry stressed that the situation is under control and not a cause for concern, urging the public to adhere to general hygiene and respiratory prevention measures, especially in gathering places and care facilities.
