AI-powered MRI marks major upgrade at Princess Basma new hospital

28-01-2026 01:20 PM

Ammon News - The Ministry of Health has supplied the new Princess Basma Teaching Hospital with a cutting-edge magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system powered by artificial intelligence, marking a significant advancement in diagnostic healthcare services in northern Jordan.

The 3-Tesla MRI scanner is the first of its kind to be introduced within Ministry of Health hospitals, reflecting ongoing efforts to modernize medical infrastructure and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of diagnostic services for patients.

Director of Princess Basma Hospital Dr. Ibrahim Shahabat said the newly installed Philips MRI system ranks among the most advanced in the region and will significantly strengthen the hospital’s diagnostic capacity. He noted that the system complements the existing MRI unit at the former hospital, helping reduce patient waiting times and ease pressure on imaging services.

Dr. Shahabat explained that the AI-supported technologies integrated into the scanner improve image quality and diagnostic precision, particularly in complex medical cases, enabling faster and more accurate clinical decision-making.

He added that the hospital has also been equipped with three CT scanners, seven radiology rooms, a bone density examination unit, two mammography suites, and a cardiac catheterization and interventional radiology unit. These facilities collectively form a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment system at the new hospital.

Dr. Shahabat emphasized that the upgraded infrastructure, alongside qualified medical and technical staff, will result in a tangible improvement in healthcare delivery. He said the new hospital will enhance access to advanced medical services in Irbid and the northern governorates, contributing to higher standards of care and faster service delivery. Petra
