The Ministry of Justice revealed that the "Electronic Bracelet", was used as an electronic monitoring tool 316 times last year.
The electronic bracelet is considered an alternative to judicial detention and custodial sentences, according to amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code No. 32 of 2017 and the Alternative Penalties Regulations No. 46 of 2022.
The bracelet is attached to the ankle of the monitored individual to track their movements geographically and temporally through the Public Security Directorate.
