Jordan grants foreigners 3-month residency permit instead of one

08-01-2026 12:42 PM

Ammon News - Interior Minister Mazen Faraya on Thursday announced new measures to facilitate residency for foreigners in the Kingdom, aiming to bolster the national economy.

Faraya explained that these measures include granting foreigners entering the Kingdom a temporary residency permit for three months, instead of one month, upon arrival at border crossings, with the exception of those entering on work visas.

He emphasized that these measures will maintain the current visa system, allowing foreign travelers arriving in the Kingdom to have their temporary residency stamped in their passports for three months directly at the border crossing. This simplifies the entry and residency procedures for foreigners.

The Minister also stated that these measures are part of the Ministry of Interior's efforts to bolster the national economy through incentive-based decisions aimed at increasing the number of travelers arriving in the Kingdom for various purposes.

These measures also contribute to supporting the tourism and medical tourism sectors by encouraging tourists and patients to come to the Kingdom, stay longer, and receive treatment in Jordanian hospitals, thus stimulating tourism and boosting the tourism and healthcare economies, he added.

Faraya emphasized that these procedures also aim to attract more investment to the Kingdom by providing investors with access to various investment opportunities and allowing them to study them in depth, thereby increasing investment rates in the Kingdom.

It is worth noting that prior to these procedures, foreigners arriving in the Kingdom were granted a one-month temporary residency permit at the border crossing. If they wished to extend their temporary residency, they had to visit the nearest security center to extend it for two months. The new procedures are consistent with the provisions of the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Law No. (24) of 1973 and its amendments.
