Ammon News - A recent survey showed that the majority of Germans support banning the use of social media for youth under the age of 16, coinciding with Australia implementing similar strict regulations.
The survey conducted by the "Insa" institute for the widely circulated Bild newspaper revealed that 60% of participants support such a ban, while 24% opposed it, and 10% indicated they were indifferent, while 6% of participants did not answer or were unsure.
The survey included 1,003 people and was conducted on December 11 and 12, 2025.
This survey comes after Australia began enforcing new legislation on December 10 that prohibits children and teenagers under 16 from having accounts on major platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube, X, Reddit, and Twitch, after the law was passed at the end of 2024.
The decision has sparked widespread controversy, as Reddit has filed a lawsuit against the Australian government, arguing that the ban poses a threat to freedom of expression.
Germany seems to be moving towards adopting a similar approach, as the current survey reflects the community's interest in the digital protection of youth, amid growing global discussions about the effects of social media on children and teenagers.
