Ammon News - Official sources said on Wednesday that Jordan has not been officially notified of reports circulating about Israel's intention to withhold approximately 50 million cubic meters of water from Jordan, as stipulated in the 1994 Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty.
The sources confirmed to "Ammon New Agency" that Jordan has not received any official notification of this matter.
Maariv Hebrew newspaper reported on Tuesday, citing Israeli officials, that the Israeli authorities had informed Jordan of their intention not to deliver the agreed-upon share of water.
Israeli officials claim that this is a technical difficulty related to the ability to desalinate water. The Jordanian Water Ministry rejects the explanation and claims that the reason is not engineering.
Maariv claimed that Jordan has indicated that they are willing to renegotiate the pricing. Israel has not yet given an official response.
The peace agreement signed between the two sides in 1994 stipulates that Israel supplies Jordan with 50 million cubic meters of water annually from Lake Tiberias, which is transported via the King Abdullah Canal to the Kingdom, in exchange for one cent (1 dollar = 100 cents) per cubic meter.
