02-12-2025 02:38 PM

Ammon News - The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) Secretary General Hisham Hayseh revealed that the Authority, in cooperation with the agriculture sector, was able to reach one million date palms producing "Medjool" dates by the end of 2025.

Speaking at the Government Communication Forum, Hayseh stated that the per capita share of water annually in Jordan is 61 cubic meters, while the global poverty line is 500 cubic meters.

Despite the Jordanian figures are significantly lower than the global water poverty line figures, water reaches various regions in Jordan in light of the presence of agricultural production, he said.

Regarding the Jordanian-Syrian relations concerning the agreement on water quotas and the Yarmouk Basin, Hayseh affirmed that Jordanian-Syrian agreements on this matter are at their best.

Jordan and Syria are working on a study to divide the waters of the Yarmouk Basin fairly, and to amend the 1987 agreement to be fair to both parties, he explained, in addition to confronting climate change by activating a rainmaking project in the basin, because studies indicate promising results on the Syrian side.
