Jordan Participates in Islamabad Conference on Peace, Security, Sustainable Development

12-11-2025 02:24 PM

Ammon News - A Senate delegation, headed by Senator Tawfiq Krishan, Chair of the Senate Administrative Committee, and including Senator Rakan Fawaz, took part in the first Inter-Parliamentary Speaker's Conference (ISC), held in Islamabad, Pakistan.

According to a Senate statement, Senator Krishan delivered a speech at the two-day conference, held under the theme "Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development," describing the event as a valuable platform for addressing global challenges and advancing the aspirations of nations toward peace, stability, and progress.

Krishan underscored the crucial role of parliaments through coordinated efforts and parliamentary diplomacy as key instruments of soft power in promoting peace, security, and development, and in fostering cultural dialogue among nations.

He called on countries with ongoing border disputes and conflicts to adopt dialogue and negotiation, guided by wisdom and reason, to achieve stability, safeguard their national interests, and pave the way for peace and prosperity.

Highlighting the enduring plight of the Palestinian people, Krishan said that even after 80 years since the founding of the United Nations, the Palestinian cause remains an open wound in the conscience of humanity, reflecting the international community’s failure to ensure justice and the right to self-determination.

He underlined that the recent Israeli war on Gaza exposed the brutality of the Israeli occupation forces and their genocidal acts against the Palestinian people. He reiterated Jordan’s steadfast position, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to establish an independent state on the June 4, 1967, lines with Jerusalem as its capital.

Krishan also highlighted His Majesty’s unwavering commitment to the Hashemite custodianship of Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites as a pillar of Jordan’s diplomatic and political stance.

On the sidelines of the conference, the delegation, accompanied by Jordan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Maen Khreasat, met with Chair of the Pakistani Senate Yusuf Raza Gilani to discuss ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
