04-11-2025 04:46 PM

Ammon News - The second international scientific conference, titled "Media Discourse in a Changing World: Voice and Echo," opened on Tuesday under the patronage of Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani.

The event is organized by the Hashemite University through its Discourse Analysis Laboratory in the Faculty of Arts.
The conference brings together academics, researchers, politicians, and media professionals from 11 Arab and international countries, alongside Jordanian officials, scholars, and media practitioners.

Momani stressed the importance of combating media misinformation through legal measures and public awareness. He noted that laws prohibiting the dissemination of false information and initiatives to enhance public media literacy are critical in enabling society to identify and confront misleading content, hate speech, and disinformation.

He highlighted Jordan’s experience in media and information literacy, emphasizing that professional media institutions play a central role in clarifying information. He called on journalists and media institutions to fulfill their responsibility to verify and disseminate accurate information.

Hashemite University President Khaled Hayari said that politicians, academics, and media professionals share the responsibility of restoring credibility, ethics, and awareness in media discourse. He called for transforming media from a space of polarization into a platform for dialogue and knowledge, stressing the media’s growing role in shaping public opinion and collective consciousness in an era where perception is often intertwined with information and emotion.

Momani honored the Higher Organizing Committee, keynote speakers, and supporting entities for their efforts in ensuring the success of the conference. The opening day featured scientific research presentations using the poster system.

The conference addressed three main themes: political media discourse and its role in shaping public opinion, educational and religious media in reinforcing identity and countering misinformation, and language and digitalization in new media, including emerging vocabulary and structural changes.
