23-10-2025 02:09 PM

Ammon News - Karak Governor Qablan Sharif on Thursday concluded the "Enhancing Digital Safety and Combating Violence Against Women" project, organized by the Karak Castle Center for Consultation and Training, with support from SecDev Foundation and in partnership with the International Development Research Center (IDRC), in the presence of representatives from supporting entities, local partners, civil society organizations, and media outlets.

The event coincided with the announcement of the project’s outcomes and achievements, as well as the global celebration of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, underscoring the importance of ongoing efforts to enhance digital protection and promote a culture of safe online engagement, particularly for women, girls, and persons with disabilities.

Director of the Center, Esraa Mahadin, said the center is a women-led national institution established in 2017, dedicated to implementing programs and initiatives that build and strengthen the capacities and skills of women and youth. These efforts, she noted, aim to empower women politically, legally, economically, and digitally, and to ensure equitable and effective participation in community development within a framework that upholds democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

She added that these achievements highlight that local collaborative efforts are the key to enhancing women’s participation in public life and protecting them from all forms of digital violence.

Project Coordinator Rana Nawaiseh reviewed the project’s main activities and results, which included capacity-building programs for institutions and individuals in the technical, legal, and social aspects of digital safety.

The project implemented six community initiatives comprising dozens of activities and training sessions, targeting thousands of participants from various social groups, with a special focus on marginalized women, girls, and persons with disabilities in Karak Governorate. These activities were carried out under the supervision of a local technical committee representing official and community institutions and received extensive media coverage.

The project culminated in the preparation of three policy papers aimed at integrating its outcomes into national political and institutional frameworks, in addition to launching a digital campaign that reached thousands of young men and women across the Kingdom.
