PSD chief participates in FIEP meetings in Paris

Ammon News - Director of Public Security Directorate (PSD), Maj. Gen. Dr. Obeidallah Maaytah, on Wednesday participated in the meetings of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Gendarmerie Commanders (FIEP), held in the French capital, Paris.

Chiefs and directors of police and gendarmerie agencies from member states attended the event.

In his speech, Maaytah expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the French presidency in organizing and hosting this summit, which contributes to enhancing global security and stability and exchanging expertise and the best practices among participating security agencies to confront the growing challenges facing the world.

Maaytah highlighted the FIEP's "important" role in strengthening member states' security cooperation and achieving its goals of enhancing mutual understanding and developing strategic relations, which contributes to exchange expertise and address "pressing" security issues with "high efficiency and adequac".

Maaytah also called for opening "new" horizons for joint cooperation and action among member states to confront emerging security threats, mainly the risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI), which has sparked an unprecedented revolution in both civil and security fields.

Maaytah added that this situation has become a "pivotal" part of developing police systems, monitoring and response systems, data analysis, and anticipating risks before their occurence.

Maaytah noted the other side of this technological revolution poses significant challenges, as criminal groups and illegal organizations seek to exploit AI technologies to carry out cyber attacks and spread disinformation across the digital space.

Maaytah indicated that noted this threat calls for enhancing preparedness and raising the level of international coordination to confront these risks.

On the sidelines of the meetings, Maaytah met with a number of heads, commanders, and directors of police and gendarmerie agencies from the participating countries and discussed with ways to enhance joint cooperation and exchange expertise in various policing and security fields.
