Jordan celebrates World Post Day

09-10-2025 03:00 PM

Ammon News - Jordan has joined countries across the world in celebrating World Post Day (WPD) on October 9th annually, under the theme: "Post for People: Local Service. Global Reach".

In a statement Thursday, Lara Khatib, Chairperson of Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), said the celebration represents an annual occasion and serves as a global platform to reconsider essence of the postal sector and its renewed role in human life.

Amid the accelerating digital shifts that are reshaping features of communication and services worldwide, Khatib called for "precisely grasping" capability of societies and countries to keep pace with this transformation and their readiness to harness tools of the digital age to serve humanity.

Khatib added that this year's theme reflects the modern philosophy of postal services as "a deeply rooted community network and a bridge connecting people to the tools of the age."

The sector provides communities, especially in remote areas, with vital access to the digital economy, government services, and financial services, she pointed out.

Khatib stated this situation highlights a challenge facing the world today: Cpacity to deliver the positive impact of technology and widely benefit from digital transformation.

On Jordan's efforts, Khatib said the TRC launched a "pioneering" regional initiative aimed at motivating university students to innovate in providing advanced postal services, enhancing their awareness of the important role of the postal sector, and opening new horizons.

Khatib indicated that the step focuses on the leadership and innovation fields, implemented under interactive training programs, field visits, and dialogues with postal industry experts.

The initiative, she noted, also focuses on promoting leadership and innovation in the postal delivery services, and creating emerging job opportunities in the postal sector, especially amid the rapid growth of the e-commerce sector.

On other goals, she stated the step aims to promote environmentally friendly green practices in innovative business models in the postal sector to enable students to explore professional and entrepreneurial opportunities in the postal sector and launch sustainable green projects in the postal sector.

This vision, she said, is achieved by implementing several programs in Jordanian universities, namely: "Ask the Postal Expert" program, "My Entrepreneurial Project" program, and "Career Day" program.
