Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Rakan Qadah - A large fire late Sunday night engulfed nearly 150 denums (150,000 Square meters) of woodlands in Rahweh district, Jdeitta municipality in Northern Jordan.
A source at the Civil Defense Department (CDD) said that the flames engulfed nearly 150 denums of woodlands and agricultural land planted with pomegranate and fig trees.
He noted that Kora CDD cadres worked until a late hour last night and managed to contain the fire.
The source added that the fire is caused by arson, but the perpetrator has not been identified yet, noting that police launched an investigation into the incident.
It is noted that the number of fires have increased dramatically in the past several days, with flames engulfing hundreds of denums of woodlands and agricultural lands.
CDD sources noted that some citizens lack knowledge in methods of treating dry grass, causing fires to spread to wide areas, in addition to several incidents of arson. Dry summer conditions also contribute to the difficulty of containing the fires.
