Ammon News - The Jordanian Customs Department in cooperation with the security services, thwarted the smuggling of 2,389 cigarette cartons that were secretly hidden inside a refrigerated truck driven by an Arab driver at the Karameh border crossing, the department’s media spokesperson said on Sunday.
While a refrigerated cargo ship from a neighboring country was transiting through, suspicions led to a thorough inspection, which uncovered concealed compartments intended for smuggling. Inside, authorities found 2,389 cartons of cigarettes that had been prepared for illegal transport. The items were seized, and all necessary legal procedures were initiated in accordance with regulations, the spokesperson confirmed.
He stressed that smuggling operations in all their forms pose a threat to public health and safety, given that they are not subject to oversight by the competent authorities and do not comply with Jordanian standard specifications.
