The representative of the leather and garment industries sector at the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Ihab Qadri, stated that the tariffs imposed by the United States on most countries worldwide have also affected Jordan, with new tariffs of 20% being imposed.
Qadri confirmed that Jordanian exports of clothing to the U.S. exceeded 1.5 billion dinars last year.
He revealed that China, Bangladesh, and Colombia are among Jordan's biggest competitors in clothing exports to the U.S., and they have been subjected to even higher tariffs than those imposed on Jordanian exports.
U.S. President Donald Trump had signed an executive order imposing "reciprocal tariffs" on countries "around the world," fulfilling a promise he repeatedly made during his election campaign to usher in a "golden era" for the U.S. However, these tariffs could potentially lead to a collapse of the global economy.
