Ammon News - Israeli media reported that Tel Aviv presented an alternative proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a prisoner exchange, meaning it did not agree to the mediators' proposal. In its proposal, Israel requested the release of 10 Israeli prisoners held by the Hamas movement, instead of the 5 prisoners mentioned in the Egyptian proposal.
On Saturday, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted sources described as informed, stating that Israel "hopes to reach a ceasefire agreement before the Jewish Passover holiday, which falls between April 12 and 20."
According to the sources, Israel insists on the release of 10 detainees in Gaza, instead of the 5 as per the Egyptian proposal.
Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli Prime Minister's office announced that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had held a series of consultations following the proposal received from the mediators. It added that he responded to the proposal from the mediators with an alternative one, fully coordinated with Washington, without disclosing the details of the two proposals.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority stated that presenting an alternative proposal means Israel did not agree to the mediators' proposal.
Israeli Channel 12 reported that progress had been made according to the mediators, although Israel insists on the release of 10 prisoners, adding that it seems a compromise solution may be reached.
In recent days, international and Arab media reported that Egypt and Qatar had presented a proposal for a ceasefire, which includes the start of the second phase of the truce agreement after a period of time.
Hamas' leader in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya, announced on Saturday evening that the movement had agreed to a new proposal received from Egypt and Qatar, expressing hope that Israel would not obstruct the implementation of the proposal, without revealing its details.
