Ammon News - Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Wednesday condemned Israeli shelling of the village of Koya in Daraa in southern Syria, which killed and wounded a number of civilians.
In a statement, Aboul Gheit reiterated the organization's "categorical rejection of ongoing Israeli attacks on Syrian territory as a blatant violation of the country's sovereignty and an attempt to exploit the delicate phase Syria is going through to encroach on its lands and fuel strife and conflict."
He called on the UN Security Council to live up to its role to halt the "brutal and unjustified Israeli aggression" on Syria and commit Israel to respect the international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
It called on the international community to take a strong and clear position to deter Israel's settlement and aggressive behavior against the countries and peoples of the region. Petra
