Starlink starts testing phase in preparation for launching satellite services in Jordan

23-03-2025 12:23 PM

Ammon News - The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has signaled its commitment to facilitating Starlink's ongoing technical trials, with Chairman Bassam Al-Sarhan emphasizing the importance of strategic partnerships with global telecom and IT players to enhance domestic connectivity and service delivery.

In a statement released Sunday, the TRC confirmed its readiness to provide full regulatory support for Starlink's three-month trial period.

This initiative, Al-Sarhan noted during a meeting with Starlink representatives, is critical for evaluating the future of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite services in Jordan and the wider region, and aligns with Starlink's planned commercial launch within the Kingdom.

Starlink officials highlighted Jordan's selection as a key testbed for their technology, citing its strategic geographic location and robust regulatory environment as pivotal factors. These trials, the third of their kind globally, are designed to optimize signal coverage and assess network performance.

Starlink's technical trials, conducted in collaboration with the TRC and the Special Communications Commission, involve continuous signal monitoring, interference assessment with existing satellite networks, radio frequency (RF) measurement, service quality evaluation, and radio environmental impact studies.

The trials aim to fine-tune satellite parameters and RF emissions, with the goal of achieving enhanced ground coverage, a five-fold increase in internet speeds, and an eight-fold expansion of user capacity.

Starlink's commercial service launch in Jordan is projected for April. Petra
