Sharjah House of Poetry celebrate World Poetry Day

Ammon News - The House of Poetry at the Sharjah Department of Culture hosted a poetry evening on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, to celebrate World Poetry Day.
Featured poets and presenter
The event featured poets Dr. Aisha Al Shamsi from the UAE, Dr. Mohammad Said Al Atiq from Syria, and Yusuf Abdulaziz from Jordan, with the evening presented by Raghëd Jatl.

Attendance and importance of the event
The event was attended by poet Mohammad Abdullah Al Buraiki, director of the House of Poetry, along with a large audience of poetry lovers, critics, academics, and poets, who consider the House of Poetry their regular destination for the beauty and eloquence of its literary offerings.

Opening remarks by Raghëd Jatl
The evening began with Raghëd Jatl highlighting the importance of the Arabic language and poetry, as well as the continuous support from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, for poets and poetry. He also praised the efforts of the Department of Culture in promoting cultural activities and expressed gratitude to the House of Poetry for its year-round celebration of poets.

Poetic readings
Dr Mohammad Said Al Atiq’s performance
The readings began with poet Dr. Mohammad Said Al Atiq, who dedicated verses to the Ruler of Sharjah and his emirate, which has become a hub for poets through its House of Poetry. He shared his poetic reflections with the audience, followed by poetry with profound humanitarian messages, including pieces dedicated to grandparents and parents, which were met with enormous appreciation.

Dr Aisha Al Shamsi’s spiritual poetry
Next, poet Dr. Aisha Al Shamsi took the stage, reading spiritual and faith-infused poetry that reached the soul, including selections from "The Mantle of Meaning," which resonated deeply with the audience.

Yusuf Abdulaziz’s symbolic style
Poet Yusuf Abdulaziz concluded the readings with his distinctive symbolic style, offering profound insights that required deep reflection. His poems, mixing classical and free verse, were characterised by their succinct yet powerful expressions, which captured the imagination of listeners. He also read an evocative piece titled "The Mother's Image."

Conclusion and honourary ceremony
The evening ended with poet Mohammad Al Buraiki honouring the poets and the evening’s presenter for their contributions to the celebration of poetry. Sharjah 24
