Ammon News - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Jordan confirmed the right of Syrian refugees to voluntarily return to their homeland, and any refugee who wishes to return to Syria can do so according to their own desire and circumstances.
The UNHCR also confirmed that it does not currently provide any financial assistance to refugees who intend to return to Syria, but rather provides advice on return through a hotline to help refugees better understand the return procedures.
If one wishes to return to Syria, the process can be organized personally and one can go to the Jaber border crossing, which is currently operating from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the UNHCR said in a statement.
Refugees should prepare well for return, including ensuring that they have collected basic documents such as identity cards, passports, civil and educational certificates, as well as securing medicine, food, water and warm clothing, it added.
The UNHCR also explained that at present, refugees wishing to return to Syria are required to have official travel documents, such as a Syrian passport (whether valid or expired) or a return pass issued by the Syrian embassy.
