Ammon News - The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has condemned the ongoing targeting of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation, reporting that at least 10 journalists were killed in December alone due to the Israeli occupation’s systematic attacks.
In a statement issued by the Syndicate’s Freedoms Committee on Saturday, it revealed that the Israeli military carried out 84 violations and crimes against Palestinian journalists during the previous month. The majority of these incidents occurred in the Gaza Strip, where 10 journalists were killed. Five of the victims were killed in a brutal attack while inside a live broadcast vehicle.
Additionally, the Syndicate reported the killing of eight family members of journalists, the destruction of three journalists' homes, and severe injuries to five journalists from shrapnel and gunfire.
The Committee also highlighted that around 20 journalists were subjected to detention and prohibition from covering events, while seven others were imprisoned. Eleven separate instances of live ammunition being fired at journalists were also documented.
Ten journalists were also subjected to severe physical assaults, and three incidents of equipment damage and theft were reported in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
The statement emphasized the continued use of various forms of violence and intimidation against journalists, including direct threats with weapons, exposure to toxic tear gas, unjust trials, financial fines, travel restrictions, and attempts to run over journalists.
The Syndicate reaffirmed its commitment to defending press freedoms and exposing the crimes of the Israeli occupation in all international forums.
