Jordanian arrested in US due to bomb threat

04-01-2025 03:45 PM

Ammon News - A 28-year-old Jordanian man appeared in a US court on charges of aggravated public disturbance, falsely conveying information about a bomb threat, and operating an unregistered vehicle, according to the American WSPA channel.

According to the channel, the Jordanian was arrested on Thursday after a traffic stop on the highway.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety said that a state police officer stopped a tractor-trailer due to a missing license plate, and while stopping the vehicle the young man was driving, he told the officer that there was an explosive device inside the vehicle.

As a result, the road was closed and bomb squads from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Department of Law Enforcement responded to the scene. However, no explosive devices were found and the highway was reopened after about five hours.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety added that the tractor-trailer was registered in the name of a company, and the Jordanian young man was held in the Greenville County Detention Center on a bail of $20,238.

ICE placed the young man in custody, noting that he entered the United States legally in 2018 but failed to comply with the terms of his legal admission. The young man is scheduled to appear before an immigration judge at the Department of Justice's Executive Office for Immigration Review on August 6, 2026, according to ICE.
