25-03-2026 02:16 PM

Ammon News - A “mummified half-fish half-human mermaid” has ignited debate after grotesque remains were found in an old house.

The horrifying discovery of an “ancient beast” with sharp teeth and a tail fin could be “proof” of a Japanese common legend.

The mysterious “skeleton” was reportedly found in an old house in Fukushima.

The nightmare inducing find has rows of razor-sharp teeth, giant hands, and a mermaid’s tail.

It’s thought to be a representative model of a kappa, a mythical water demon found in Japanese lore.

They are said to inhabit the ponds and rivers of Japan, dragging people and livestock into the water to drown them.

Kappas later became better known as small, mischievous beings with green, scaly skin.

The aquatic, reptilian humanoids are considered one of three major Yōkai, a class of supernatural entities in Japanese folklore.

The “mummified kappa” will go on display at the Yonezawa City Citizens’ Gallery in the city of Yonezawa, Japan.

It will be showcased at the Oshu Rare Treasures Market between March 28 and 29.
