Ammon News - The total area of licensed buildings in Jordan during the first ten months of 2024 declined by 8.6% to approximately 7.26 million square meters, compared to 7.94 million square meters in the same period of 2023, according to the Department of Statistics' monthly report released Monday.
The report revealed that 19,629 building permits were issued by the end of October 2024, marking a 4.4% decrease from the 20,535 permits recorded during the same period last year.
For residential purposes, licensed areas amounted to 5.82 million square meters, down by 11.6% compared to 6.58 million square meters in 2023. Meanwhile, licensed areas for non-residential purposes increased by 6.7%, reaching 1.43 million square meters, compared to 1.34 million square meters last year.
Residential buildings constituted 80.2% of the total licensed area by the end of October 2024, while non-residential purposes accounted for 19.8%.
Regionally, the central region dominated with 67.4% of the total licensed area, reflecting a 2.7% increase compared to 2023. The northern region contributed 22.8%, showing a decline of 11.6%, while the southern region's share rose by 14% to account for 9.8% of the total licensed area. Petra
