Jordan facilitates winter aid delivery to Gaza amid humanitarian crisis

24-12-2024 02:27 PM

Ammon News - The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in collaboration with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) and in coordination with the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF), successfully delivered approximately 188,000 essential winter supplies to Gaza on Tuesday.

The shipment included tents, rain covers, mattresses, blankets, pillows, and other vital shelter supplies. These items were handed over to UN partners in Gaza for distribution to families in need, underscoring the collaborative effort to address the escalating humanitarian crisis caused by aid delivery restrictions.

Since the onset of the aggression, the JAF has played a critical role in facilitating aid movement through the Jordanian corridor in cooperation with JHCO, the United Nations, and other non-governmental organizations. This partnership has been instrumental in ensuring the delivery of life-saving assistance to Gaza.

Hussein Shibli, Secretary-General of the JHCO, stressed the importance of maintaining a steady flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza. "Our partnership with IOM and other humanitarian organizations is crucial in achieving this shared goal. Despite challenges like border closures and access restrictions, we are committed to our role as a reliable channel for aid delivery," he stated.

IOM Jordan Chief of Mission Tajma Kurt highlighted the strength of cooperation in humanitarian responses. "The partnership with JHCO and JAF showcases the power of collective efforts to overcome significant obstacles in delivering aid to Gaza. The humanitarian response remains a top priority," Kurt emphasized.

To bolster these efforts, IOM has provided 12 vehicles to JHCO, with two additional vehicles and communication equipment scheduled for delivery early next year.

Since 2023, IOM’s regional response has facilitated the delivery of over 970,000 life-saving supplies to Gaza through Jordan, Egypt, and Cyprus.

IOM Jordan, established in 1994, has been a leader in migration management and humanitarian assistance for 30 years, working closely with the Jordanian government, international organizations, and local communities to support sustainable development and emergency relief. Petra
