Ammon News - Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya, accompanied by Public Security Director Major General Obaidallah Maaytah, reviewed the progress of the National Strategic Plan to Combat Drugs 2024-2026 on Thursday, discussing its implementation mechanisms and future directives.

Faraya underscored the significance of the strategy as a reflection of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s vision and directives to safeguard society from the perils of drugs. He highlighted the continued commitment to combatting this issue, raising awareness about its dangers, and strengthening preventative measures.

The minister commended the collaborative efforts of the Public Security Directorate, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, and other national institutions in law enforcement, tracking down drug smugglers and dealers, and eliminating drug sources. He stressed the importance of fostering comprehensive awareness, enhancing information dissemination, and delivering continuous education to shield society from drug-related threats.

Faraya emphasized focusing on youth through modern communication methods and expanding efforts to treat addiction and reintegrate recovering individuals into society. He called for intensified coordination and cooperation among ministries and relevant institutions, with clearly defined responsibilities, measurable tasks, and performance indicators to ensure effective implementation and regular strategic evaluations.

Major General Maaytah highlighted the legal and legislative frameworks governing the Public Security Directorate’s work in prevention, enforcement, and treatment. He outlined the Directorate’s preparedness with qualified personnel, modern equipment, and advanced technologies to address the challenges posed by drugs.

Maaytah further stressed the role of community partnership in the success of anti-drug initiatives. He called for enhanced cooperation among community members and institutions to raise awareness, develop and implement scientific studies and educational programs, and establish a robust societal culture capable of protecting youth and the wider community from drug-related harm.
