Ammon News - The Secretary-General of Almithaq Al Watani Party, Ahmed Al-Hanandeh, announced the nomination of MP Ahmed Al-Safadi for the presidency of the 20th parliament, whose first regular session begins on the 18th of this month.
Al-Hanandeh stated during a press conference in Amman that, following internal consultations within the party and its parliamentary bloc, they agreed to nominate MP Ahmed Al-Safadi for the role.
He highlighted that Al-Safadi’s extensive experience, including his two consecutive terms as Speaker of the 19th House of Representatives, his previous roles as First Deputy Speaker, and his leadership of various parliamentary committees and blocs, made him the ideal candidate.
Al-Hanandeh also expressed gratitude for the party’s and parliamentary bloc’s support for Al-Safadi’s candidacy, stressing that the party had tasked its parliamentary bloc with continuing discussions and building a broad alliance with other blocs to strengthen parliamentary work and support Al-Safadi. This is in line with the political reform process led by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
He further emphasized that Jordan is facing difficult circumstances due to the ongoing regional events, particularly the aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza, urging unity around the Hashemite leadership, the Jordanian Armed Forces, and security services to confront external threats.
It is worth noting that the National Covenant Almithaq Al Watani Party’s parliamentary bloc consists of 30 members and has been working on building strong alliances with influential parliamentary blocs.
