Amman and Barcelona municipalities discuss enhancing cooperation

Ammon News - While visiting the Spanish Municipality of Barcelona, Deputy Mayor of Amman Mohammad Rasmi Al-Qaisi met with Commissioner Sara Balbida to discuss improving cooperation between the two cities and sharing experiences and expertise on various projects.

In a statement released by the Greater Amman Municipality today, Al-Qaisi emphasized the strong historical ties between the two cities during his meeting with Commissioner Balbida. He mentioned that there is a twinning and cultural exchange agreement in place between the Greater Amman Municipality and the Barcelona Municipality.

He stated that the municipality aims to stay current with development and learn from successful cities, particularly in smart city initiatives. Smart systems have been introduced in six areas in central Amman, including electronic monitoring of streets, smart charging stations, and electronic parking. These systems will eventually be implemented citywide in Amman.

He also mentioned that the Secretariat has finished numerous crucial infrastructure initiatives, including the development of a structured and innovative public transportation network via the Bus Rapid Transit project. Additionally, various projects outlined in the Secretariat's 2022-2026 strategy are currently underway, with a primary focus on creating a waste management entity, investing in this field, and digitally enhancing services provided by the Secretariat.

Sara Balbida, on her end, showcased the Barcelona Municipality's plans and ongoing projects in infrastructure, public transportation, waste management, and smart cities.

She commended the progress made in Amman, the capital, and the Secretariat's efforts to enhance services for the city and its residents, expressing Spain's willingness to collaborate in joint projects.

The delegation was accompanied on its visit by the member of the Secretariat Council for the Abu Nuseir area, Sultan Al-Awamleh.
