Ammon News - During a ceremony at Kyung-wha University in South Korea on Tuesday afternoon, October 29, Al Sadd and Qatar national team forward Akram Afif was awarded the title of best player in Asia for 2023, by the Asian Football Confederation. Additionally, the Qatar Football Association received the Host Country Appreciation Award for the 2023 Asian Cup.

From the beginning, the Qatari star stood out as the top choice to win the award due to his personal and team successes. Today, he was officially named the winner, beating out Brazilian star Vinicius Junior who was also a strong contender for the Golden Ball but ultimately fell short.

During the 28th AFC Annual Awards, Akram Afif rightfully claimed the Asian Player of the Year accolade. The Qatari star has now won the award for the second time since 2019. This marks the 17th occasion in which the Asian Player of the Year accolade has been won by a standout player hailing from the Arab region. After his victory today, Akram Afif now ranks as the second most successful Arab star in terms of title wins, following Majed Abdullah from Saudi Arabia, who has won the title 3 times.
