Value of returned checks reaches JD1.3 billion in 2023, CBJ says

Ammon News - The value of checks in circulation in Jordan increased in 2023, to reach JD55.4 billion, with an increase of 2% in terms of value, and an increase of 1% in terms of number, which reached 10.4 million checks, compared to 10.3 million checks and a value of JD54 billion, in 2022, according to data from the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ).
The data reveled that the value of checks circulating in the Electronic Clearing Center (ECC) amounted to about JD41 billion in 2023, with a number of checks reaching 6.86 million checks.
The total value of returned checks reached 221 thousand checks, or 3.2% of the total value of checks in circulation last year, with a value of JD1.3 billion.
The reasons for returning checks in the system vary between technical and financial reasons, as the percentage of checks returned for financial reasons reached 66%, and 34% returned for technical reasons of the total checks in circulation last year.
