58 countries to compete in world wrestling championship in Amman

Ammon News - Jordan is set to host the World Wrestling Championship (freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women’s) for athletes under 17 years of age from August 19 to 25. The event, to be held at the Princess Sumaya Hall in the King Hussein Youth City, will see significant international participation with around 586 athletes representing 58 countries.

The championship will feature approximately 954 total participants, including 586 athletes, 221 coaches, 49 referees, 27 medical professionals, and 71 administrative staff, following the recent closure of registration.

The countries participating in the championship are: Jordan (host), the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Spain, Germany, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Georgia, Mexico, Poland, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Kosovo, Saudi Arabia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, North Macedonia, Norway, Peru, Romania, Puerto Rico, Serbia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Chinese Taipei, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and South Sudan.

Mohammad Al-Awamlah, President of the Jordan Wrestling Federation, stated: "We are nearing the completion of all arrangements for the championship, and we continue to demonstrate that Jordan is a key player in organizing major events. We are confident that this edition will be as successful as previous ones in organizational, logistical, and technical aspects."

He added, "The World Championship presents an excellent opportunity, and we are eager to involve our athletes who previously competed in weight categories at the Asian Championship to gain valuable experience."

The Jordan Wrestling Federation will conduct a selection process for the World Championship participants in the approved weight categories. The selection competition will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Yarmouk Hall in the King Hussein Youth City, with national team coaches and the technical committee in attendance. Petra
