Ammon News - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, and the Director of Public Security, Major General Obaidullah Maaytah, signed on Sunday a memorandum of understanding to deliver electricity to sites affiliated with the Public Security Department (PSD) using an off-grid solar power system.

Kharabsheh said that the memorandum includes the implementation of a project to design, supply, install, operate and maintain off-grid solar power systems, numbering 9 systems in 5 sites belonging to the PSD, to achieve the best performance in serving the various segments of society and providing the best services.

He stated that the project aims to deliver services to police stations in areas far from the network to enable them to provide service to the citizens based on a Cabinet decision, which includes approval to exclude sites affiliated with the PSD from the approved principles for delivering electricity at the expense of the rural fils and to deliver electricity to these sites via an off-grid solar power system at a total cost of JD770,000 from the Ministry’s Rural Fils Account, provided that the department is committed to paying the additional financial amounts resulting from the implementation of the project.

Maaytah said that the memorandum aims to deliver solar electricity to police stations in remote areas, and it is the result of joint work between the department and the ministry to provide better security service throughout the geographical extension of the Kingdom.

He added that the PSD works as part of the partnership with the Ministry of Energy to provide support and assistance to its cadres while performing their work and to prevent and control infringements on power lines in cooperation with the Ministry.

Director of the Directorate of Electricity and Rural Electrification, Hisham Momani, stated that the implementation of the electricity supply project will involve floating tenders through the special tender committee to implement the project in police patrol centers and civil defense centers in the al-Ashqaf, al-Karama, Bayer, Shabika, and Tuba areas.

He pointed out that winning the tender includes exemptions of the goods that will be purchased for the project from customs duties and subjecting them to the general sales tax at a rate or a zero rate. Petra
