Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and his counterpart, Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström, held Tuesday extensive discussions on developments in the situation in Gaza, and the efforts made to reach a ceasefire, ensure the protection of civilians, and deliver adequate and sustainable humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip.

During a joint press conference, Safadi condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ storming of the city of Jenin and its camp on Tuesday, describing the situation in Gaza as catastrophic, stressing that peace will not be achieved except through a two-state solution.

He stressed that Jordan continues to stand by the Palestinian people, and terrorist attacks will not prevent it from delivering aid to Gaza and the West Bank.

The West Bank suffers from illegal measures by the Israeli occupation, as the economic siege that the West Bank faces reflects negatively on the Palestinian Authority’s move to provide services and expenses to the Palestinians working in it and others, Safadi pointed.

Efforts are being made to reach a ceasefire, ensure the protection of civilians, and deliver sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip, the Minister added, stressing the need to make more international efforts to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which plays an indispensable role towards the Palestinian refugees

For his part, the Swedish Foreign Minister, Tobias Billström, praised the Jordanian leadership and its humanitarian and political work regarding the crisis in the Gaza Strip, stressing that Sweden and the European Union are committed to working to bring peace, a ceasefire, and an exchange of prisoners.

Billström stressed the need for Israel to adhere to international and humanitarian laws.
