Ammon News - The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, confirmed that Jordan is home to 2.4 million Palestinian refugees, the largest number in the region.

Guterres said during a press conference following a morning tour of Al-Wehdat refugee camp that he met mothers and children receiving high-quality medical care from one of the UNRWA centers that provides laboratories with the latest tests and technologies and pharmacies that provide life-sustaining medicines for free.

Guterres also stated that he attended an English language class at an UNRWA girls’ school in the camp, and attended an activity for female students in the school laboratory, in addition to meeting with 6 students from the school parliament, stressing that UNRWA is a lifeline and stopping its services will deprive millions of Palestinian refugees of these services.

In the dark world, UNRWA is the only ray of light for millions of people, he noted.

He pointed out that UNRWA schools provide education services to more than half a million students in Jordan, as well as health care services, food services, and employment and labor services for Palestinian refugees and other Jordanians.
