25th Japanese Speech Contest in Jordan

Ammon News - The Embassy of Japan in Jordan, and the University of Jordan, jointly hosted the 25th Japanese Language Speech Contest in collaboration with the Jordan Office of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and JICA Alumni Association in Jordan (JAAJ). The Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Language Dr. Adnan Al-Smadi and the Ambassador of Japan to Jordan Mr. Okuyama Jiro and many other distinguished guests and participants attended and graced the event.

The contest served a dual purpose: to provide Jordanian students studying Japanese language with a platform to showcase their language proficiency and to introduce elements of Japanese culture to the audience. The opening ceremony featured a captivating performance of Koto, a traditional Japanese musical instrument.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Okuyama Jiro emphasized the significance of cultural exchange and language learning. He commended the dedication of Jordanian students who have embraced the Japanese language and expressed his hope for stronger ties between Japan and Jordan. The Ambassador’s words resonated with the audience, reinforcing the contest’s mission of fostering the understanding and friendship across borders.

The contest unfolded in two sessions:

1. Recitation Section: 9 contestant passionately shared their favorite lyrics of Japanese songs. Ms. Haneen Adnan Alzuhluf secured the first prize, while Ms. Rawan Assad Naoosh claimed the second prize.

2. Speech Section: 9 contestants eloquently gave a speech on the theme “Things about Jordan that I want to convey”. Mr. Anas Ali and Mr. Ammar Al-Mashaiekh emerged as the winners in this category.

The first and second winners of each section were awarded by Ambassador Okuyama.

Special recognition was also bestowed upon the following individuals:

- Ms. Ala'a Ghazal:Awarded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
- Mr. Samer Samha: Awarded by the Japanese Community Association in Jordan
- Ms. Ayah Al Sadawi : Awarded by Jordan Japan Academic Society
- Ms. Nour Abu-Shukheidem: Awarded by the Japan Jordan Friendship

The event fostered cultural exchange and camaraderie, bringing together Japanese and Jordanian participants from diverse backgrounds.
