Department of Statistics: Trade balance deficit down by 10% in 2023

Ammon News - The Department of Statistics (DoS) issued its monthly report on foreign trade in Jordan, which indicates that the value of total exports during 2023 amounted to JD8,939 million, of which national exports amounted to JD8,272 million, and re-exports amounted to JD667 million, and the value pf imports amounted to JD 18,259 million, during the same period.

Accordingly, the deficit in the trade balance (which represents the difference between the total exports value and imports value) will reach JD9,320 million during 2023, compared to JD10,354 million in the same period in 2022.

The total exports decreased during 2023 by 1.5% compared to the same period in 2022, national exports by 1.1%, and re-exports by 5.8%, while imports decreased at a faster pace by 6.0%. Accordingly, the trade balance deficit decreased by 10.0% during 2023, compared to the same period in 2022.

As for the coverage of total exports to imports, it reached 49% during the year 2023, compared to 47% during the same period in 2022, an improvement of 2%.

The coverage ratio of total exports to imports reached 55% during December 2023, compared to 50% during the same month of 2022, an improvement of 5%.
