Ammon News - Colombia, the top flower producer in the Americas, exported more than 700 million bunches of flowers packaged in bouquets for Valentine's Day, mainly to the US, the Colombian Department of Agriculture said, Reuters writes.

This is 15 percent of the annual flower export from Colombia, which is the second largest supplier in the world, after the Netherlands.

Colombia stands out in the market for the quality of roses, carnations and lilies.

Valentine's Day and Mother's Day are the occasions when the largest export of flowers is made, accounting for 30 percent of the total volume of exports.

Preparing flowers for Valentine's Day, February 14, opens 27 temporary jobs in addition to 110 regular jobs in that activity, and the vast majority are women.

The transport of flowers by plane tripled and reached up to 40 flights a day.

In addition to the US, Colombia exports flowers to about 100 countries, including Japan, France, Spain and South Korea.

From January to October 2023, flower exports brought Colombia $1.75 billion.
